The Essential 8 Cyber Security template is based on the Australian Cyber Security Centre’s Essential 8 Framework, aimed at Windows based Server and Workstation environments.
The Essential 8 is a good starting point given its simplicity compared to some larger frameworks. It covers Application controls, Patching, Microsoft Office Settings, Privileges, Multifactor Authentication and Backups.
The Essential 8 is a Maturity model with 4 levels (Level 0 through to Level 3). Level 3 is the highest level that an organization can achieve under this framework. Before beginning, an organization should consider its target Maturity level based on the organizations own individual circumstances, threat level and risk tolerance.
